About Where to stay in Ibiza: the back story

Ibiza is small enough to cross in under an hour, but each corner has its own character. Ibiza Town gives you Dalt Vila, the harbour and the restaurants; Santa Eulària is calmer, with a marina and a long promenade; the north is green, hilly and quiet, with the agroturismos and the rural hotels; the west faces the sunset; and the south, from Platja d’en Bossa to Cala Jondal, is where the beach clubs are.

Inside the walls

Two small hotels sit within Dalt Vila’s Renaissance walls: the Mirador de Dalt Vila on Plaza de España, home of the Can Font restaurant, and La Torre del Canónigo on Calle Joan Román. Staying up here means evenings on the ramparts after the day visitors have gone down to the port.

Talamanca and the Marina

Across the harbour, the Ibiza Gran Hotel on Paseo Juan Carlos I is home to brula, one of the island’s three MICHELIN-starred restaurants (MICHELIN Guide Spain 2026 (guide.michelin.com, read 22 October 2026)). Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is on the beach at Talamanca, a short walk or water-taxi ride from the old town.

Most visitors pick the wrong end of the island: decide first whether you want nights out or quiet days.

The north

The north is the island of farmhouses. Atzaró is an agroturismo on the road to Sant Joan; Cas Gasí is a country house near Santa Gertrudis; Hacienda Na Xamena looks down on the sea from the cliffs above Sant Miquel; and Six Senses Ibiza is on the northern tip of the island, by Xarraca bay.

The sunset coast

Around Sant Antoni, Pikes is the hillside hotel on the Camí Sa Vorera. To the south-west, the coves of Cala Tarida and Cala d’Hort face the sunset.

Choosing a base

If it is your first visit, stay in or near Ibiza Town: the buses and ferries leave from here, and you can walk to dinner. Come back for the north.

Our advice: book the north for peace and the south for the beach clubs, and never assume a taxi will be waiting at 2am in August.
